Pancake Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday , the day before Ash Wednesday and the start of the Lenten season was celebrated by the entire St. Clare's School community with the tradition of eating pancakes.

This custom dates back to the middle ages when people cleared their pantries of butter, creme and eggs so that would be ready to fast for Lent.

Today Shrove Tuesday is known by many other names around the world such as Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday. At St. Clare's, Shrove Tuesday also signals the start of our fundraising activities for Project Compassion, an agency of Caritas Australia.

This year Project Compassion's theme is "A Just Future For All " with the focus  on how Caritas Australia empowers young people to become channels of love and positive change for their entire communities.
